Speech & Debate: Parliamentary Debate
In this class campers will learn the skills and basic strategies of parliamentary debate. We will begin with activities that promote impromptu speaking and play games that get us thinking on our feet. We will learn how to create effective arguments, construct cases, develop refutation strategies, and weigh impacts in order to win debates. We will research current events and learn basics about government, politics, and economy. Students will collaborate with partners and debate daily in class. This class allows students to try out an exciting form of debate that Bentley School has a proud history of competing in and is a great preparation for either Middle School or ninth-grade speech and debate. Even students who don’t think they are interested in competing in debate will enjoy this opportunity to learn more about current events and practice public speaking. Laptops required.
